We are of Africa, for Africa. As befits a fast-rising continent, we aim also to be global. Our students come from across East Africa and beyond. Our faculty is drawn from North America, Europe and Africa, west to east, north to south.
We operate in close collaboration with a variety of partners, from the World Bank to the German Development Corporation and a variety of East African organizations. The East African Commission has a seat on our advisory board; each year, the five members of the East African Community will nominate a student or media professional to attend the AKU Graduate School of Media and Communications, all expenses paid. We are negotiating a number of student and faculty exchanges with international universities in South Africa, the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
A recent media training program for NGOs, sponsored by the World Bank, exemplifies our reach. Workshops were held in Nairobi for delegates from half a dozen Africa nations, including Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique and Uganda. A second round was organized in Bishkek in association with the Central Asian University, also part of the Aga Khan network. Delegates came from Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Tajikistan.
