Dr. Sam Kamau joined AKU-GSMC in July 2015 as a Faculty member. His responsibilities include curriculum development, research and innovation, student mentorship and corporate training. Before joining AKU, Sam taught at the University of Nairobi, School of Journalism for eight years.
Sam holds a PhD in Communication Studies with a specialization in social media and political communication. His teaching and research interests include campaign communication, political strategy, audience studies, digital media, media and development, among others. His research and publications on Digital journalism, social media, political participation, and digital advocacy have been well received both locally and in Pan African contexts.
Sam is also a communications trainer and consultant, providing solutions and training in communication strategy, crisis communications management, and digital (mostly social media) strategy to different organizations.
As a campaign strategist, Sam has served as a member of a Presidential campaign communication team charged with designing and implementing campaign messages and communication strategies. He is also a member of a Political Think Tank that deals with political strategy, policy and governance.
Sam is a political and governance analyst and appears regularly (weekly) on local Television and Radio providing commentary and analysis on politics, governance and contemporary topical issues. He is also a blogger and a Newspaper columnist.
