Participants who enrol in four or more courses are eligible for an Executive Certificate in Effective Leadership Communication from the Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications. Courses will run from October to December 2018.

Course Description: Today’s marketplace is an environment that requires agile organizations that can respond and adapt to changing needs. Leaders from all sectors are facing pressures to innovate to ensure their organizations remain competitive and relevant. We will explore the notion of leadership and how you can lead your organization to progress. You will learn about the difference between authority and leadership and how both are important to ensuring sustainable and effective organizational change.

Course Description:This workshop will demystify vision and strategy for emerging leaders. You will leave with a deeper understanding of these twin challenges, having developed the skills needed to clearly and powerfully articulate vision and strategy. Among other things, you will discover elements of a compelling vision and strategy; how vision and strategy connect with values and tactics; how to get colleagues to buy into your vision; and how to turn strategy into reality for your team.

Course Description: You will learn what it takes to increase their influence on those around you – especially, but not only, your colleagues. We will dissect the specific strengths and habits you can cultivate over time to grow your own ability to sway your circles. You’ll also examine your current level of influence; learn where and how to build new “influence muscles”; look at barriers that keep you from being more influential; and analyze how you can inspire and motivate colleagues and others through both the spoken and written word.

What’s far more challenging is figuring out how, as leaders, we can most effectively get our colleagues to accept and even embrace dramatic organizational change. This highly practical course dismantles the various myths about how to persuade people to change and lays out a proven process that emphasizes the importance of tackling the emotions that often paralyze our colleagues – fear, confusion, cynicism, and self-doubt. Course Description: Imagine a reality in which you are confident in your strengths and abilities whilst appreciating and proactively mitigating your weaknesses. This course is about self-awareness, and in it you will learn about what motivates you, intrinsically and extrinsically, and how you can chart a leadership path that realizes your potential.

Imran Alimohammed

Adjunct Lecturer and Director of Executive Education. Imran is a seasoned executive specializing in creating and scaling organizations with over 15 years of experience in the fields of aviation and education. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School where he also served as President of the Harvard Kennedy School Student Government.

Mike Eldon

Management Consultant and Executive Coach. Mike was the founding chairman of the Kenya ICT Federation and is deeply involved in numerous organizations, including the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), of which he is a founding governor, and KCA University, where he is chairman of the University Council. He is also on the Council of the Kenya Education Management Institute.

Martin Oduor Otieno

Former Banking Executive and Entrepreneur. Martin is the current chairman and CEO of Leadership Group Limited, a Nairobi-based consulting firm that he founded. He moved into leadership consulting and coaching after serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) for nearly 6 years, and was also the CEO of KCB Uganda Limited, KCB (Tanzania) Limited, KCB Sudan Limited and KCB Rwanda SA.

Katra Sambili

International Public Administration Expert. Katra is a proud citizen of the Republic of Kenya and an international Public Administration expert with ten years multi-sectoral experience in public policy, leadership development, institution building, change management and strategic communications. Ms. Sambili’s immediate assignment was as a Coach for Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education on its Transforming Leadership for 21st Century Africa; a novel suite of courses designed to equip participants with the leadership skills, transformative mindset and modern communication expertise to better lead Africa.

Stephen Buckley

Director of Professional Development. Stephen has been a reporter, editor and teacher for more than 25 years. Stephen began his career with The Washington Post, where he spent 12 years as a local reporter and foreign correspondent, based in Nairobi and Rio de Janeiro. Stephen has served four times as a juror for the Pulitzer Prizes, and he was a regional judge for the Livingston Awards for Young Journalists for three years.

Mercy Atieno Odongo

First Secretary and Foreign Service Officer. Mercy brings rich experience in diplomacy, intergovernmental relations and multilateral policy development. She is ahead of the curve in strategic visioning, exercising adaptive leadership, building partnerships, and getting things done in a development context. Mercy is also an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School.

Paula Byer

Chief Research Officer. Paula Byer is the Chief Research Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister of Barbados. She has held this post for the past eleven years. As Chief Research Officer she functions as the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Focal Point for Barbados and leads a team of one Research Officer and an Economist. Ms. Byer has worked on regional integration matters since 1999 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and the Office of the Prime Minister.
